Someone brought up the idea of BH running into Caduceus to help them with FCG's loss, but I have another proposal:
They run into Essek, who has been studying Aeor for years, and he agrees to help them reassemble a body and core for FCG for the chance to study FCG, and Ashton's brain
Happy holidays! I haven't written anything new in a minute, but I was reminded of this piece I wrote years ago (in the middle of the Aeor arc) and I'm still quite fond of it, as my first return to fic writing after a near-decade of abstaining. Thought I'd repost it just for fun. If you give it a read, I hope you enjoy!
just randomly thinking that if critical role plans to do an animated series of the mighty nein after they're done with vox machina then i might get to see animated essek thelyss and all the following arcs and i. i. there is nothing i would want more
i have very little interest in watching c2 mostly because of the insufferable attitude of some parts of the fandom that's like "well you can like vox machina or bells hells i GUESS but can't you at least admit that m9 is objectively better in every way"
that being said—fjord, jester, and the aeor arc are carrying the appeal of the campaign on their backs and if i watch it, i will do it for them 🫡
Watching exu: calamity and being obsessed with the lore and history inevitably leads to a moment of thinking “oh. Now I understand why Caleb and Essek were like that”
Thinking about how Essek is, like, the elven equivalent of 22 at the time of C2, and imagining him at like five or six hundred looking back at his youth floored by how reckless he was/the stupid stuff he did.
I'm not even talking about everything with the Beacons and the Assembly, but like: "Shit, how did I EVER think it was a good idea for Me, a Wizard, who relies solely on magic, to travel to Aeor, -alone-, with only my Wizard lover, who -also- only relied solely on magic, in a place WELL KNOWN to be brimming with Extremely Deadly Anti-Magic Creatures, Anti-magic Fields, and a surplus of Anti-Wizard Traps???"
After seeing how Lucien reacted to being turned into a cat, I think Jester just needs to polymorph King Tealeaf every now and again and let him run around the ship as an adorable, mischievous kitty whoever he has nightmares or the memories get to be too much. It’s tiefling enrichment—
